HOW BOLT WORKS

Insert Key

When the vehicle ignition key is inserted for the first time, the spring loaded plate tumblers, in gold, move until they match the key exactly.

Purple Tumbler

On first rotation the silver side bar pushes each purple tumbler, permanently matching the tumbler to the key.

Side Bar Locked

When the Key is removed the side bar moves into the locked position. When the key used again, the side bar is rotated into the unlocked position.

BOLT LOCK COMPATIBLE KEYS

How BOLT Lock Works

BOLT produces 9 different cylinders for different vehicle ignition keys but only 7 cylinders are applicable for the main vehicles in the Australian market. These can be used to set with the BOLT Key or the Compatible Vehicle Ignition Key.

The BOLT Key can be used when clients don’t have a compatible ignition key or would prefer not to use the vehicle key. The BOLT Key uses the CY24 Key Profile and BOLT Lock Australia is able to supply keys for the BOLT Key Range which can be used instead of the vehicle ignition key. The ARB ASCENT Canopy and the BOLT Canopy uses the BOLT Key for the handles.

With the finalization of the SIP22 in mid 2019, BOLT Lock is looking to expand with Cylinder Range again with the potential for the next line to be TOY48, ISU5 or the MIT8. Details of the next BOLT lines will be released when they become available.

BOLT KNOWN ISSUES

Spinning Cylinder: After inserting the key into the HU101 Lock for the first time and when the key is turned, it continues to rotate in circles. This is because the locking pin hasn't been secured in its locked position. The lock will need to be replaced. This issue was resolved for HU101 Profile Locks in Late 2017.

6th Tumbler not locking into position: The TOY43 Lock wasn't being secured by the 6th Tumbler and as a result allowed other objects, such as a screw driver to unlock it. The lock will need to be replaced. This issue was resolved for the TOY43 in Late 2018.

COUSIN KEY AND RAKING ISSUES

With BOLT Lock Technology the chances of someone being able to access tools and equipment with another key is greatly reduced. In general we are operating in a couple thousand key codes, while Master Lock for example, is working in the hundreds and some other brands are only in the dozens.

Some Australian manufacturers use only the one key to unlock all their locks or have a maximum of 12 different keys. This ultimately means there is greater chance of theft and because there is no sign of physical entry, you will never really know what happened. You should check with your insurance company to ensure you have the right cover.
